Updates

First, apologies for the long blackout. I really did have things to write here, but I've run into computer troubles, and... I've been busy elsewise. No excuse really, but so be it.

The things keeping me busy are work: finally. Not just school work, either.

The professor of one of my education courses mentioned in the previous post is also the Assistant Principal at the Middle School where I have been a substitute the last school year and a half. A few weeks ago, after one day as a sub, I dropped by his office with a question. He had one for me, too.

"Hey, do you play baseball?"

"Umm... yeah. Well, I did when I was younger."

"Would you like to coach baseball here?"

So I'm coaching the B team at the Middle School. Tryouts start this afternoon. I bought myself a new glove last week and played catch a couple times this weekend, trying to break it in. I'm excited.

The following day, the same AP emailed me and asked if I'd be interested in a regular position at the Middle School. It turned out they had a paraprofessional position opening up and he thought of me for it.

So for the past 2 weeks, I've been working one-on-one with a student in the 7th grade with a high-functioning form of autism. He's a bright kid, and I'm enjoying it so far. It's not my ideal teaching position, but it's good experience and exposure to the needs of disabled students.

These are all good things. I've also finished a few books, which I'm hoping to review and get up here in the next few days.

Congratulations, that sounds awesome.

I even experienced a little vicarious thrill from the bit about coaching baseball. I recommend coaching in this exact style: http://www.youtube.com/user/ScrappyRon1#p/a/u/2/sJD8k2hgRmU
